I never thought I would complete a 28.4 mile day on such rough terrain. I woke up early and had 18 done before I ate lunch. I was going to stop at 25, but apparently the yale undergraduate orientation groups think they are entitled to the shelter. now I am here all alone at a campsite on the mountain, hoping for no bears. there were some interesting animal sightings today. hundreds of orange salamanders, I am sure I stepped on at least one. a few mocking birds. a big rattlesnake, more than a yard long. I tried to get a picture, but we were both a little scared. also a huge frog. that's it. I will be in ny tomorrow. will stop at some delis.
